Voting

It’s Election Day in the USA and I want to take a minute to talk to those folks who are thinking of skipping the vote because they don’t believe that change will come. I promise you, no matter who gets elected as President, things will change. The Prez is chief among 545 people who run this country, and while his job is very important and very visible, the other 544 actually make a lot of decisions that the President can’t ignore. And all of them have to pay attention to what the country feels. One way to show them what you feel is to vote.

If you, like me, can’t stomach voting for one of the two major candidates (my reason: they both backed the corporate welfare bill, also know as the “no bank left behind” bill), take a few minutes to visit the websites of the independent candidates. In addition to Ralph Nader’s perennial run, we have a Libertarian, a Constitution Party candidate and a Green Party candidate out there who don’t have the deep pockets of the DNC or the GOP, but they’re running nonetheless. Perhaps what they stand for means more to you than what you’ve seen in the last two months of red/blue politicking. While a third-party vote won’t decide this election, it will give those who get elected something to think about.

Whatever you feel, remember that the only wasted vote is the one that was never cast, and the only way to create change you can live with is to speak up. GO VOTE!

One Response to “Voting”

  1. I never realized just how important voting was to me until I was no longer able to.

Many people have died to give us the right to a voice in our nation, and not voting to me, says they died in vain. No one should die in vain.

    Vote.
